We are so excited you are checking out our activities for the children in your life. Here at First Methodist, we offer engaging, age-appropriate activities and lessons for children from birth through preteen years. Your child is a child of God, and we invite them to join us as we discover more about God's love for His people and prepare to be His lifelong disciples. Adults are welcome to sit in with us as well as participate as a volunteer leader.
The purpose of FirstKids is to create a Christ-centered environment within the children’s ministry (kids, parents, families, leaders, events) that brings children and families to a relationship with Christ and others. This will be done through lessons and quality fellowship time and activities. Our mission is to equip children with a biblical foundation that drives a desire to be disciples, transform hearts, lead others to Christ, and seek God daily.
Please have a peace of mind knowing that we set standards very high for our leaders, team members, and nursery staff. Your child will be cared for and nurtured by adults who have hearts for children, hearts for God, possess clear background checks, and pass our Safe Sanctuary training. These last two provide the physical safety for you and your child. We constantly strive to provide to best we can offer! View our Safe Sanctuary policy here.
Students in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to join us on Wednesday nights during the school year from 6:15 to 7:30 for age-appropriate fun and lessons! Each week, the kids will engage in activities that encourage and challenge them to live each day as Christ would have us do. They will experience the love of Christ through fellowship, prayer, lesson, and worship.
Sundays, 9:40 to 10:40 a.m.
Scripture-based lessons and activities for children 3 years old through 6th grade. Nursery is provided each Sunday morning for kids from birth through preschool — but, we also encourage and welcome children in the sanctuary for worship!
The nursery is available on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for kids from birth through pre-k. Our nursery staff are trained, have completed child safety training, and have passed background checks.
Worship on Sundays as a family! Wiggle bags are available to pick up and offer activities for you kiddos during service. Kids are invited to participate in children’s time during the service. This is a time designed specifically for kids to engage in worship. Parents are welcome to join their children at the front of the worship area for children's time if their child doesn't want to go up alone!
This study meets in the spring on Sunday mornings at 9:40. This is for sixth-grade students and above. For more information, please contact Canyon campus children's minister, Rhonda Perkins. Sixth-grade students and older youth with a desire to grow their faith have the opportunity to explore the main tenets of our faith while strengthening their beliefs and relationship with Jesus Christ. At the end of their study, these individuals can chose to be confirmed into the church. In addition to Sunday evenings, we will have activities scheduled throughout the semester to expand the knowledge and meaning of being a disciple and finding individual identities.
Each spring, we offer special studies for our children, including Bible studies just for third- and fourth-grade students and our Armor of God study. (To sign up, please email Rhonda Perkins.)
We recognize that our sixth-graders aren't quite children, but aren't quite youth-age. Therefore, we're excited to offer a space in our children's ministry just for them as they prepare to advance to our youth ministry in May of each year.
Our children's choir rehearses on Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. and performs periodically in our worship services. The children's choir is led by Holly Goehring, a junior high choir teacher and Assistant Artistic Director for the Amarillo Youth Choir.
Worship on Sundays as a family! Wiggle bags, which offer activities for your kiddos during the service, are available to pick up at the back of the worship space. Kids are also invited to participate in children’s time during the service. This is a time designed specifically for kids to engage in worship. Following children's time, the kids are invited to join team members for a Bible lesson and activities.
Our Wednesday evenings, which go from 5:30 to 7:30 during the school year, offer a Christ-centered environment for infants to sixth-grade students. Every week, the kids will have the opportunity to engage in worship, and learn how to pray together. They will be encouraged to participate in stories and activities that will equip them to live each day as Christ would have us do.
You are invited to stay with your child and participate in the activities with them!
